HPV Vaccines
HPV vaccination is highly effective and safe in preventing cervical cancer and other types of cancer such as penile, anal, throat, and mouth cancer.
When administered before exposure to the virus, the vaccine offers the best protection against the disease. After vaccination, studies conducted in Australia, Belgium, Germany, New Zealand, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States have shown reductions of up to 90% in HPV infections among adolescents and young women.
The HPV vaccine has been proven to be safe and effective. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that all girls aged 9 to 17 and boys aged 9 to 14 receive two doses of the vaccine, along with cervical cancer screening later in life.
Who can get vaccinated?
Men, women, boys (ages 9 to 14), and girls (ages 9 to 17). In Colombia, the Expanded Immunization Program (PAI) covers both school-attending and non-school-attending children, since at these ages the immune response is strongest.
